That is definitely succinct lol. :( This sort of reminds me of how I felt how Shatter Me and its potential, but that's for another time.

"Nothing - from characters to plot to the multiple themes - is really developed. None of the plotlines get the focus or attention needed to create a reasonable plot structure. The characters are tropes, or one dimensional or impossible to care about."
:O. Well that's disappointing...

"Which would be fine, and good, but then why is there a murder mystery involved in the first place? Why ignore it to watch Riley wrestle with her impulses?" Also true. Can't have it both ways because one will distract from the other and make it seem less poignant.

"A book about a confused high school girl wrestling with being homosexual, or even bisexual, would have been welcomed. A straightforward murder mystery about a beloved but aloof teacher would have been interesting. A YA romance about two best friends who become more than that through adversity/working together closely/etc/ would have been done before, but had possibility." <-- Very true. I've read some version of all of these, but they still have such potential, if written well. And the first of all three probably needs to be written, given the lack of diversity still in existence in YA lit.

I am sorry for your disappointment. Truthfully, I hadn't even heard of this title until you spotlighted it, so...

(PS - are you still doing the epic read-along of Infinite Jest?)
(PPS - OMG YES. It's like I was meant to comment on your blog at this time because the quote from Daughter of Smoke and Bone in your left sidebar? Total, pure win.)Christina Reads YAhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14937783114868207494noreply@blogger.com
