I was late to know about this awesome challenge out together by Good Books and Good Wine,
so when a friend wanted to start it late, I jumped it. There are
several of us joining in - every Friday for 15 weeks, Christina of A Reader of Fictions, Lili of Lili's Reflections, Mickey of I'm A Book Shark and I will post our challenge answers. Stop by their blogs to see their answers! This week's topic is bedtime reading rituals!
My reading ritual at bedtime isn't that exciting. I do most of my reading during the day: at work, on breaks and lunches, or at my desk when I get home from work. And when I get ready to wind down my day, I look over at my bedside table and... well.... this is what it looks like. (Hello Kinslayer and last Sirantha Jax novel!)
There is a system at work here. I'll explain.
This is my book tour stack, organized by what is due by when. If I have a tour coming up, I will read that book before bed. Or if it is a sequel and I haven't read the one before, that goes into the pile as well (like with Skylark and Shadowlark.)
And, if I have no tours up soon and my e-ARC queue is not full of books about to expire, I pick a book from the "my choice" pile. I have way too many owned unread books, so this pile is made of the ones I *NEED* to read asap. This stack tends to move the most slowly (coughseethedateontheUnravelMeARCcough), as I only read about an hour in bed before going to sleep.
I use that blue notebook to record my notes/thoughts as I read, since I tend to forget my review points if I sleep after doing some reading.
And that's it! My nighttime reading habits. It's a bit messy, but it's a system that keeps me on time for book tours and reviews.
Be sure to stop by A Reader of Fictions, I'm A Book Shark and Lili's Reflections to see what their rituals are!
I like seeing your piles! I've got a little bookshelf just for my review books rather than the nightstand pile, which would be like Jenga if I tried it. Oh man, it would be so dangerous!
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea! I really should invest in a small bookshelf, especially as my stacks can get... unwieldy.
DeleteLove the piles -- I might post a pic of my stack tomorrow -- we read the same way. Huge stack by my bed for me to work thru -- but rather than a notebook, I email myself as read via my phone. I rarely use those notes -- they're almost always snarky! -- but it helps remind me of how I felt while reading.
ReplyDeleteThat is so smart! I'm going to use that for the times I forget/am too lazy to get up and find - my notebook.
DeleteI use notebooks when I read too!!!!!!! I said that on Twitter once and a bunch of people were like, "That's too much of a chore. Reminds me of school." And I thought I was the only one that didn't just magically pull reviews out of their ass when done reading. lol *high-five*
ReplyDeleteYES! I use notebooks a lot, especially for longer and fantasy stories. It helps me to organize my thoughts when I go to write reviews.
DeleteAnd it might remind me of school a little - but I liked school XD
You have a system! I'm so impressed! I usually toss my Arcs in the air and read whatever smacks me in the face. I might need to think about employing some of your organizations! Give a kiss to Kinslayer for me!
ReplyDeleteAhahaa your way sounds dangerous, but effective. Maybe I'll give it a whirl!
DeletePiles. That looks familiar! Hahaha. :o)
ReplyDeleteHa, yeah. So many books, so little place to put them!
