*non-fantasy edition

Yesterday we broke down our favorite adult reads of 2016. Here are the YA contenders that made the cut for us:

1. This Adventure Ends by Emma Mills

Sloane isn't expecting to fall in with a group of friends when she moves from New York to Florida—especially not a group of friends so intense, so in love, so all-consuming. Yet that's exactly what happens.

Sloane becomes closest to Vera, a social-media star who lights up any room, and Gabe, Vera's twin brother and the most serious person Sloane's ever met. When a beloved painting by the twins' late mother goes missing, Sloane takes on the responsibility of tracking it down, a journey that takes her across state lines—and ever deeper into the twins' lives.

Filled with intense and important friendships, a wonderful warts-and-all family, shiveringly good romantic developments, and sharp, witty dialogue, this story is about finding the people you never knew you needed.

2. Gemina by Jay Kristoff & Amie Kaufman (Illuminae Files #2)

3. The Vanishing Throne by Elizabeth May (The Falconer #2)

4. These Vicious Masks by Kelly Zekas & Tarun Shanker (These Vicious Masks #1)

5. Resonance by Erica O'Rourke (Dissonance #2)

6. Behold the Bones by Natalie C. Parker (Beware the Wild #1)

7. The Firebird trilogy by Claudia Gray

(A Thousand Pieces of You, Ten Thousand Skies Above You, and A Million Worlds With You.)

8. Gena/Finn by Hannah Moskowitz & Kat Helgeson

9. The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

10. Timeless by Tara Sim

  1. I read a shockingly low amount of YA books this year for some reason (but I did love GEMINA!) I've still got The Falconer on my TBR but I hope to maybe do a binge read of the whole series. :)

    1. Arent those such good books? I don't think I have recovered from any/all of them still!

And do read those! Firebird is so fun and scifi lite -- really easy but shippy reads!
