TTT: Books I Loved but Will Never Re-Read

Tuesday, April 17, 2018

For this week's TTT freebie, I'm going back to the list I started last week but didn't finish. Sorry Jana, I'm a mess!

Top Ten Books I Loved but Will Never Re-Read

1. I'll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios

Humans need water in their bodies to live. Crying all mine out once was E-NOUGH.

2. All Melina Marchettas

See above. This author wrecks me. I can't go through Saving Francesca or Jellicoe Road again. I just can't.

3. Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein

"Kiss me, Hardy. Kiss me, QUICK!". And then shoot me out of a cannon into the sun.

4. Skylark by Meagan Spooner

Sometimes a series should have stopped at one. I can't taint how much I love this book with how much I hated the series conclusion.

5. The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson

ONE THOUSAND AND SEVEN PAGES. Sorry BSand, we're lucky I got though this once.

6. Philippa Gregor's Tudor series

Has one ever outgrown a series quite so rapidly? Let me keep my fond memories of The Constant Princess and The Boleyn Inheritance without marring them with the implicit knowledge that they're actually badly written and researched.

7. The Stepford Wives by Ira Levin

I am so glad I read this horror-satire and so glad I'm never required to do so again.

8. Mariana by Susanna Kearley

That's a twist that only works once.

9. Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen

For a 4.5 star book, the thought of reading this again just makes me want to take a nap? Probably why I never actually finished the series, huh?

10. The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

MY TRAGIC DEAD BI BABIES ARE ALL OVER THIS LIST AND I HATE IT.

So there we go loves, ten books I really did love and also ten books you couldn't pay me to put back in front of my eyeballs. What about you? Did you do this list last week when you were supposed to? Link up in the comments.

  1. I would give the rest of the Scarlet series the old college try- It does get good. Also, I agree with the Boleyn series EXCEPT the Other Boleyn Girl, aka the one that started it all because the character of George Boleyn just continually breaks my heart and gives me the feels.

  2. Oh man, yes, I absolutely loved Philippa Gregory's books but the knowledge that they aren't super based on fact definitely mars my enjoyment. And yikes, I'm about to read The Song of Achilles for the first time soon. Wish me luck?

    1. Good luck! You'll love it, but you'll also cry. I'll be here for you.

  3. I'm kind of burned out on Philippa Gregory. I'm not sure why, but maybe because I have read the criticisms of her historical inaccuracies. Or maybe I'm just burned out on her.
I tried to read Code Name Verity, but I ended up DNF-ing it. I know I'm the odd one and that most readers loved it.
I've had Jellicoe Road on my list forever. I think I may have a copy on my Kindle. I'll have to read it sometime. LOL!

  4. I totally know what you mean about loving something and not wanting to revisit it! I feel this way about movies sometimes too. Although I do think I want to torture myself and read The Song of Achilles again hahah. But like, my favorite author Kate Morton?! Her books are so painfully good I'm not sure I can reread them. Too emotional. Good list!!

    1. I'm not a big rereader to start with. Like Tamora Pierce, sure all day. HP? Obviously. But anything that doesn't have a lot of childhood nostalgia I just feel like my time could be better spent reading Circe instead of TSoA again?

But omg tell me how much it hurts on reread, yeah?
