Top Ten Tuesday: Books That Will Make You Laugh

Tuesday, April 19, 2016

Top Ten Tuesday is all thanks to Broke and the Bookish!
This week is all about books that make you laugh. I always seem to talk more  about the books that make me cry, so it's great to remember that this hobby also makes me really fucking amused sometimes. There's a pretty wide mix of genres in here because funny knows no bounds.

The Lynburn Legacy by Sara Rees Brennan
All three of these books are filled with banter goodness, but book one aka Unspoken, was my introduction to Jon and Kami Glass, not to mention Angela Martin so it gets a special shout out. This book is genuinely, irrepressibly funny.
.

The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan
These two women have been tickling my funny bone for almost ten years with their snarky  sartorial website. Happily for me, their fiction is just as good as their fashion sense. The Royal We is my favorite of the lot and their only adult novel, but Spoiled and Messy are both full of puns and pop culture humor. (Brick Berlin stars in.. Tequila Mockingbird!)

These Vicious Masks by Tarun Shanker and Kelly Zekas (These Vicious Masks #1)
This book made me laugh out loud three times before it hit sixty pages. That's damned impressive, and it kept up for the rest of the story. I was so genuinely entertained by this book and its subtle and unsubtle hilarity. "Oh look! Upholstery!"
.

A Night Like This by Julia Quinn (Smythe-Smith Quartet #2)
The entire Smythe-Smith series is entertaining and funny but book two, A Night Like This, takes the cake as the best based on one particularly hilarious chapter. The romance is great but the scene-stealing antics and conversations of Frances, Elizabeth, and Harriet made me literally lol.

Soulless series by Gail Carriger
The series that taught me what "comedy of manners" really meant. This book is clever in a lot of ways, but Alexia's perspective vs. or with society provides a lot of fodder for hilarity.

False Covenant by Ari Marmell (+ sequels)
All of these books have clever humor to spare, but book two was the highpoint for me. This quote will go a long way to seeing if this is your type of read:

Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie
This book is possibly my favorite romance novel. Cruise hits a great balance of chemistry and banter with Min and Cal. Plus, this is a lady that can write a great trope-filled romance with excellent sex scenes. Plus great female friends who are ALSO funny. Win win win. (My kingdom for a Liza book please please please)

The Ruby Oliver series by E. Lockhart
I have only read the first two books but Ruby's unique outlook on life and love is unique and way beyond amusing.

Beauty Queens by Libba Bray
More satire than outright lol machine, though it has its moments of hilarity, Beauty Queens is Bray's snarkiest side and maybe her best side. Some of the parody wears thin, but it's worth a read and smartly makes its points.
.

Walsh Family series by Marian Keyes
Again, this is a series that blends humor and heart really really well, but I featured my favorite of the six published. The series is based around a family of six Irish sisters and their older parents trying to deal with Adulthood. Keyes is a great writer and her characters will make you laugh and weep.

  2. Oh my gosh I LOVE THE LYNBURN LEGACY and one reason was because of how funny it is!!! So many of the characters, and just how they interact with each other. Same for Soulless! I really love that series, Alexia is so great. I'm excited to read These Vicious Masks, it sounds really fun :)
