Top Ten Books I Have Never Read

Tuesday, April 18, 2017

Top Ten Tuesday is all thanks to The Broke and the Bookish! This lovely header is thanks to APR's own Dani.

This week I've decided to out myself for the books that I have never ever read. Try not to shun me too much, okay?

1. The Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner
I actually tried chapter one of book one and was not pulled in.. but I keep seeing it recc'd and I keep buying the sequels... so maybe one day.

2. Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi (Shatter Me #2)
I couldn't I'm sorry, I tried. I made it through 1.5 books of this but Mafi's writing just does not fit with this series and it feels so overblown and purple and not even Kenji was enough. I loved Furthermore, though.

3. Saga by Brian K. Vaughn and Fiona Staples
I basically KNOW I will love this and yet??? I fail.

4. Unwholly by Neal Shusterman (Unwind #2)
Unwind was big deal to me -- I felt very intensely about that book and still do. I am half scared the rest of the series is going to ruin what that book meant to me.

5. The Rithmatist by Brandon Sanderson
So I love All Things Sanderson, yes. But for some reason I look at this book sitting on my shelf and think, "ehh, maybe later." Maybe it's cause the title makes me think of math?

6. The Rose and the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh (The Wrath and the Dawn #2)
So I liked but did not love The Wrath and the Dawn. I am also not sure it needed to be a series. So I do own this, and have for months, but I would bet on many more before I start it.

7. Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett (Discworld #11)
I just... can't.

8. Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
I bought this because yessss gay wizards but haven't cracked it because the Simon Snow parts were my least favorite of Fangirl.

9. Arrows of the Queen by Mercedes Lackey (Heralds of Valdemar #1)
Though I have read a lot of her books (hard not to since she is prolific af), somehow I have missed her most popular and recommended series.

10. The Foundation series by Isaas Asimov
Science fiction staple that I perennially say "I will get to this!" I have never gotten to it. [nerdshame]

  1. The only one on your list that I've read is Carry On and I absolutely loved it. lol It ended up being my favorite Rowell book. I hope you eventually get a chance to read it. I strangely did love the Simon Snow parts in Fangirl either but I think that's because it took away from the characters that I really wanted to hear about.

  2. I'm with you on the Megan Whalen Turner books! I just got book two of that series, and I have an ARC of book five, so I may try and track down the rest of the series (with the new covers, because I love them!), and binge-read the series.

You must read The Rose & The Dagger! It was quite good enough, if not better than book one. As for Unravel Me - I usually hate love triangles, but I made the smart decision to binge-read the series, and I liked the books. You should read Unravel Me so you can get to Ignite Me. ;)

    Great post, Jessie! =)

    1. I do love the new covers! I will probably do the same as you and wait for 5 so I can marathon the entirety. I hate waiting.

I own the Rose and the Dagger so I really should! It will happen... one day lol.

  4. The only one here I've read was Saga and while I liked it, I think it's wayyyy overhyped.

I also agree that The Wrath and the Dawn didn't really need a sequel. I tried really hard to read The Rose and the Dagger but my give-a-fuck was broken. And I LOVED book 1. *shrug*

    1. Ooh I had not heard that before. But then again, I am v far removed from any GN in general.

ahaha I'm going to remember "my give a fuck was broken." I need that.

  5. hahaha I don't blame you at all for skipping Unravel Me. That whole trilogy was a train wreck. And I also wish I had just never picked up Unwholly... I never read the final two books but Unwholly just wasn't as good as Unwind. The Rose & the Dagger was a bit of a disappointment if I'm being honest... and if it makes you feel any better I haven't read a single Mercedes Lackey book. Someday. :)

    1. I did really love Mafi's Furthermore.. I think she just needed a better outlet for that prose!
Ans YEP THIS IS WHAT I AM AFRAID OF. Unwind is a standalone in my world, forever.
Mercedes Lackey is fun! Just know her older books are suuuper trope-y and can be outdated. But lots of adventure and romance.
